Having the Builders in!

I guess that the title really says it all? Joan decided that she wanted to have some work done on the house - and we all realised that cats and builders don't necessarily mix!

So it was going to be very simple really - the builders said that the work should take two weeks to complete so it was decided that we would all move out for a couple of weeks so that the builders could get on with their work without three pairs of cats eyes following their every move and twelve paws walking all over their work and paddling builders rubbish eveywhere.

Well that was the 'Plan' - however like all plans sometimes things don't work out quite as you think in the first instance.

The first problem was that one of the plumbers went sick - he was quite poorly and was unable to come the week he should have done to fix the solar heating so suddenly the project extended to three weeks .....................!

After that we had a series of 'hold ups', 'problems', 'snags', and more sickness, holidays and pressure of other work meant that here we are eight weeks after they started still waiting for the final touches!

But we thought you just might want to see how things are coming along as we come back every weekend to see how they are doing.

Lara wonders if just getting 'packed away' for the duration might be best?

Max tries out the towels for the new bathroom for softness - they pass!

Oscar checks the leftover carpet for claw resistance

We still have a new 'French Door' to be installed (hopefully within the next two weeks) and a new gas fire. We hope the gas fire won't be too long as the evenings are getting cooler.

At first Max and Oscar were a little bit shy of the builders and Lara was very keen to stay out of sight - now after eight weeks they are just regarded as an extension of the family and they get head butts and leg rubs just so long as they remember that cat tummies are for tickling on demand.

The whole thing has been very exhausting - it was exhausting for the builders as they started work in the hottest weeks of this year - and it was exhausting for us as it just seemed to go on and on!

I am not sure if the builders have had experience of feline foremen previously but they can be very exacting taskmasters.

Max and Oscar were particularly keen to inspect the work each weekend and to identify anything not quite to their liking. The bath had to be carefully checked to make sure it could be rolled about in and fortunately it passed the test very well.

I bought new towels for the new bathroom and Max was keen to ensure they were soft enough for an aftenoon snooze.
