Christmas 2002

Lara looking lovely

Hi there and welcome to our new site. As I write this we are just getting over our Christmas celebrations. It was our first real Christmas and we didn't really know what to expect but we had great fun...................

Firstly we had decorations - these were a big challenge to us - in the beginning they were placed quite high up and our owner, Joan, thought that we wouldn't be able to reach them. Of course she hadn't planned on two very inventive cats finding lots of ways to get up to play with them and after about four attempts she finally found a way to put them, more or less out of our way.

Next the Christmas cards started to arrive. Initially Joan thought they would be OK on the mantelpiece and they were. Well they were easy to inspect, sniff and pat and we thought they looked much better on the hearth anyway. She didn't care overmuch for our idea so her next valiant attempt was to put them on some sticky stuff on the wall. They lasted there for about an hour or so before we flicked them off one by one and then brought the sticky stuff down as well. Her third idea was to suspend them on string between the pictures but that one was really a non starter from the beginning - I mean we have always loved string....................................

Max with his 'shy Di' expression

Her final solution was to pin them high at the very top of the pelmet as we can't get up there!

The fairy lights were next and although we hung defiantly on to the cables at various points in the exercise she managed to install them, with the cards, at the top of the pelmet and we only have them lit when she is at home to watch us so that we don't come to any harm with the electrics!

On the windowsill we have a Santa who sways from side to side and waves at passers-by. We have tried all ways to stop him from doing that but he persists. We even resorted to attacking him through the curtains but he wasn't deterred so we have agreed to leave him alone as long as he is gone by Twelfth Night.

Christmas morning was really great - we had loads of gifts to open (this being our first Christmas) and lots of lovely wrapping paper to play with. We got one really favourite toy which we both wanted and who has given us hours of endless amusement.

He is called Cecil and is a tiny grey mouse type toy who is very realistic. We love him dearly even though he is a bit neurotic and spends much of his time hiding under the settee! We pulled his tail off before lunchtime and we take it in turns to toss him around and jump on him!

Christmas dinner was wonderful and we can't wait for New Years Eve to see what delights that brings to the house!
