Christmas 2006

Hi everyone and a very Merry Christmas to all our readers. Sorry we haven't written for a while but we have been very busy helping Joan to get ready for Christmas and have hardly had the time to pose for photos.

As you might have spotted at the top of the page Joan bought a little Santa suit - she didn't intend it for Max - she bought it for Oscar to wear when he went to the old folk's home just before Christmas because all the old folk had been asking for him to come in costume. The only trouble was Oscar was not impressed with it and absolutely refused to smile nicely for the camera whilst he was wearing it so Max had to be roped in for that job!

Max didn't really seem to mind having his picture taken wearing it and he looks quite relaxed in it as it was warm and cosy. Joan did a deal with Oscar and he agreed to wear it when he first got into the home so that everyone could see him it just so long as he was then allowed to take it off to do his 'rounds'

Apparently that worked quite well as the old people love to stroke his soft fur and hold his paws and they couldn't do either when he was wearing the coat.

This is now Oscar's third Christmas visiting the old people and although he has some new people to see each year they never seem to tire of seeing him. Some of the old people say he is one of their most reliable visitors so we wish them all a very Happy Christmas for this year and hope they have a lovely 2007.

Lara looks for mischief on her 5th birthday

The next exciting thing I have to tell you about is that I celebrated my fifth birthday just before Christmas - yes that's right I am now five years old and quite grown up. I can't believe that I have been writing this for people all around the world for almost five years and it is lovely to hear from all our readers when they send in emails.

I didn't do anything terribly exciting for my birthday except Joan had the day off work so we all got to play and have fun which was great.

We had a lovely warm Autumn this year with lots of mild weather and hardly any frost at all until my birthday when it was really cold, foggy and frosty so definitely a day to stay in where it was warm and cosy. Also there had been some chap in the Ipswich area who murderd five women so Joan said it would be much safer to stay indoors.

We still have the builders popping in and out trying to get everything working properly and we are still having problems with the gas fire so Joan is hoping that the manufacturers can sort this out for us early in the New Year.

We couldn't wait to get up on Christmas morning to see what presents were waiting for us this year - it was sort of weird, we got a gun thing that blew catnip bubbles and a 'crunch tunnel' to play in.

I have to say we weren't impressed! Doesn't Joan know that now we are quite grown up we don't want kittenish toys any more? We knew the bubbles were just air and soap so we let her happily launch them everywhere whilst we just sat and watched.

The 'crunch tunnel' is a bit more fun but we wait until Joan has gone to bed before we play in it - just to make the point, you understand.

However we did have a Christmas tree this year as Joan figured we are now old enough not to try to demolish it at the slightest opportunity! It is about five foot tall and we were fascinated watching it all go together. Oscar had to make a point about the fairy lights though so he bit through the cable before they were even plugged in!

Joan found the ideal solution to protect the cable - she simply put some plastic spiral binding around the cable and he hasn't touched it since.

Oscar and Max love to play chase games these days and if it isn't warm enough for them to go out into the garden they will just dash up and down the stairs!
